EPINOR
Composition Each tablet contains:
Norfloxacin 400 mg
Properties and Mode of Action EPINOR is an oral broad spectrum quinolone carboxylic acid derivative antibacterial agent for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms, which acts by inhibiting DNA Gyrase that is essential in reproduction of bacterial DNA.
Indications
Upper and lower, complicated and uncomplicated, acute and chronic urinary tract infections.
Prostatitis.
Bacterial gastroenteritis.
Typhiod fever.
Prophylaxis of sepsis in patients with neutropenia.
Gonococcal urethritis, proctitis and cervicitis.
Dosage and Administration The appropriate dosage should be recommended by the physician.
The following dosages are recommended:
Treatment of Uncomplicated UTI in Adults:
400 mg twice daily for 7 - 10 days.
Treatment of Complicated UTI in Adults:
400 mg twice daily for 10 - 21 days.
Gonorrhea and Other Sexually-transmitted Diseases:
800 mg single dose.
Prostatitis:
400 mg twice daily for 4 - 6 weeks.
Bacterial Gastroenteritis:
400 mg twice daily for 3 days.
Typhoid Fever:
400 mg twice daily for 28 days.
Prophylaxis of Sepsis in Patients with Neutropenia:
400 mg twice daily.
Dose in Renal Function Impairment:
Doses may need to be reduced in renal function impairment to 400 my once daily when creatinine clearance is <= 30 ml/min..
Precautions EPINOR should be used cautiously in patients with a history of convulsions.
The benefits of the use of EPINOR during pregnancy and nursing should be weighed against potential risks.
EPINOR should not be used before 18 years of age.
Caution should be exercised with the combined use of EPINOR and probenecid or nitrofurantion.
Contra_indications Hypersensitivity to any component of this product or any chemically-related quinolone antibacterials.
Side effects
EPINOR is generally well-tolerated.
Gastrointestinal and skin reactions, anorexia, sleep disturbances, C.N.S. effects or hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
