DEXATROL
Composition Each 1 ml ophthalmic solution or 1 g ointment contains:
Dexamethasone 1 mg
Neomycin (as sulphate) 3.5 mg
Polymyxin B sulphate 6000 IU
Properties and Mode of Action DEXATROL combines two antibiotics Polymyxin B sulphate active against E-coli, H.influenzae, Enterobacter aerogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and, Neomycin active against Staph. aureus, E. coli, H. influenzae, Klebsiella sp., Neisseria sp., Proteus sp., and Enterobacter sp..
DEXATROL also contains Dexamethasone, a potent and effective corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory action and high corneal penetration, thus controlling the undesirable phases of inflammation associated with bacterial infections.
Indications
Eye:
Bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis,
non-specific keratitis, deep keratitis, corneal ulcer, and scleritis, acute
and chronic nonpurulent conjunctivitis.
Ear:
External ear canal infections, mastoidectomy cavity infetions or chronic suppurative otitis media.
Dosage and Administration Eye:
Eye Drops:
1 - 2 drops every 3 - 4 hours.
Eye Ointment:
Twice daily application, in the morning and just before bedtime.
Ear
In External Ear Canal Infections:
Topical to the ear canal 4 drops 3 - 4 times daily.
Others:
Topical to the mastoidectomy cavity or ear canal 4 - 10 drops 3 - 4 times daily.
Precautions Cross-sensitivity: Patients intolerant to one aminoglycoside or polymyxin may be intolerant to other aminoglycosides or polymyxins too.
Problems in pregnancy in humans have not been documented.
Problems in breast-feeding in humans have not been documented.
Prolonged use of corticosteroid may result in glaucoma, cataract and perforation as well as thinning of the cornea.
Contra_indications Dendritic keratitis, herpes simplex keratitis, tubercular or fungal infections of the eye, vaccinia, varicella and hypersensitivity to any of the components.
Side effects
Rarely hypersensitvity, burning or stinging may occur.

DEXATROL Eye Ointment : Tube of 5 g.
