NEO-MYXIDIN EYE & EAR DROPS

Composition
Each 1ml contains:
Polymyxin B sulphate                                                 5000 I.U.
Neomycin sulphate (eq. to 1.75 mg neomycin base)         2.5 mg
Gramicidin                                                                 0.025 mg

Properties and Mode of Action
NEO-MYXIDIN is a combination of: Neomycin, a bactericidal aminoglycoside which binds to a specific receptor protein on bacterial ribosomes and inhibits protein synthesis. It is active mainly against G-ve bacteria.
Polymyxin B, a bactericidal antibiotic active against G-ve bacteria including Pseudomonas.
Gramicidin, a bactericidal antibiotic altering the permeability of bacterial cytoplasmic membrane. It is active against G+ve cocci.

Indications
Treatment of superficial ocular infections caused by susceptible micro-organisms.

Dosage and Administration
Mild - Moderate Infections:
1 drop every 3 - 4 hours.
Severe Infections:
1 drop every 15 - 30 minutes, gradually reduced.

Precautions
As with all neomycin sulphate-containing preparations, conjunctival sensitivity may occur and as with other antibiotics, prolonged or repeated therapy may result in bacterial or fungal overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms in which case, appropriate measures should be taken. However it usually regresses with continued use.

Contra_indications
Hypersensitivity to any component of the product, dendritic keratitis, vaccinia, varicella, mycobacterial infections of the eye, fungal diseases of the ocular structure, use after uncomplicated removal of a corneal foreign body.

Side effects
Hypersensitivity reactions, burning sensation, stinging or transient irritation.
